Stunning win sends shockwaves north

Alex Rae has confirmed Shock ‘Em Ova will head up to Queensland in the coming weeks, with all signs good after the five-year-old’s breathtaking performance at Caulfield.

Shock ‘Em Ova was in a different class to his rivals on Saturday, swarming over the top of them out wide to score by almost three lengths.

But the margin did little to show the magnitude of the win.

Shock ‘Em Ova ($4.50) and Dean Yendall were held up on the fence when turning for home and forced to go back and around the entire field, covering plenty of extra ground in the process.

It was a stunning performance visually, and Rae will now look to up the ante with the talented son of Shocking – with a couple of feature races already circled.

However, should anything unexpected come up, priority will be given to Shock ‘Em Ova’s spring campaign.

“He will definitely head to Queensland, even if it’s just for the nice weather as we gear up towards spring,” Rae said.

“We plan to run him in the Lord Mayor Stakes and then the Q22. But everything we do will continue to revolve around the spring.

“It’s probably a good opportunity to start testing the waters with him against some better opposition, we’re looking at a race here in spring over a mile-and-a-half for him.

“I haven’t had any horses at the top level, but we’ve always believed he could potentially head in that direction. I’m not sure how good he is, but he’s the best I’ve had.”
